Maldives reported 412 new Covid-19 cases, as well as 753 recoveries on Sunday.
239 of the 412 cases are from the country’s Covid-19 epicenter, capital Male’ City, while 162 are from residential islands and 11 from resorts in operation.
With Sunday’s numbers, Maldives currently has 19,670 active Covid-19 cases. The island nation has confirmed a total of 67,950 Covid-19 cases since March 2020. Further, the 735 recoveries reported on Sunday bring the country’s total recoveries to 48,086.
161 patients are currently admitted at hospitals across the country, 25 less than the previous.
The country’s total death count to Covid-19 is at 185, with three reported on Sunday alone. The third death, a 41-year-old Maldivian woman, was reported on Sunday night.
While the government began easing Covid-19 restrictions last year following a decline in cases, there has since been a spike, especially last month forcing authorities to strengthen Covid-19 restrictions especially in the capital. This includes an unofficial lockdown of the city, with a curfew imposed from 4pm to 8am and residents requiring permits to be out on the roads even during the remaining time.
