President Abdulla Yameen has sent a solidarity message to King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia, condemning the recent "act of terror" against the country's capital.

In his message, the President condemned the attempted ballistic attack on Riyadh by the Houthi militia "in the strongest terms".

Noting that the attack targeted innocent lives and crucial infrastructure, he assured that the Maldives' "firm commitment to working closely with the government of Saudi Arabia and the international community in eliminating the global threat of terrorism".

He also affirmed that the Maldives' "firm solidarity with Saudi Arabia, in its efforts to restore regional peace and stability".

Last Saturday, Yemeni rebels targeted Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport with a ballistic, which was intercepted by the Saudi military. Shortly after news broke of the attempted attack, Yemen's Houthi's claimed responsibility for the attack. According to Al Jazeera, a spokesperson told them that they "launched a Burkan 2-H missile, a Scud type missile with range of more than 800km, towards Riyadh late Saturday".

Saudi Arabia has been leading the coalition of states against the Houthi rebels since 2015, allegedly to restore the internationally-recognized government ousted by them. According to reports, more than 10,000 people have been killed since then.
