Member of parliament for the Eydhafushi constituency Ahmed Saleem has been summoned by the Presidential Commission on Corruption and State Asset Recovery over investigations being conducted into the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) grand corruption scandal.

President of the Asset Recovery Commission Ahmed Assad confirmed to Raajje MV that MP Ahmed Saleem, popularly known as Redwave Saleem, had been summoned by the commission for investigation on Tuesday.

The investigation conducted by the commission into the MMPRC corruption case was undertaken in association with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS).

The Presidential Commission on Corruption and State Asset Recovery established on 17 November 2018, in order to investigate instances of corruption that resulted in the loss of state assets, in the period from 1st January 2012 till 17th November 2018.

Spokesperson for the President's Office Mabrook Azeez had in February stated that the MMPRC grand corruption had been conducted in association by several top-level leaders of the government at the time, and that many efforts had been made to cover their tracks and maintain impunity, which are believed to be staunching investigation efforts by the asset recovery commission.

Spokesperson Mabrook had gone on to reassure firmly that the Solih administration would not hesitate to take action against any instance of corruption, no matter who or what groups were involved.

MP Ahmed Saleem, who was summoned by the Asset Recovery Commission on Tuesday, is the leader for the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)'s parliament group.
