Second vote for three boxes
Second vote will be held for three ballot boxes in Maavashu, Gaadhiffushi: EC

Re-voting will be held for the council seats reserved for women of Gaadhiffushi, along with the seats for Maavashu Council President and Council Members

Voters other than those registered to the three ballot boxes in question had cast their votes

Re-voting will only be held for ballot boxes of these two islands for which compliance issues were noted

The Elections Commission (EC) has revealed that they will be hosting a second vote for three ballot boxes for which compliance issues were noticed in the Local Council and Women's Development Committee Elections.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday evening, EC President Ahmed Shareef confirmed that the Elections Commission would be hosting a second vote for three ballot boxes, for which the same issue had been noted by the EC in counting votes. Two persons from another constituency had voted into the Th. Gaadhiffushi No. 1 ballot box (N9.1), and two people from another constituency had voted into the L. Maavashu No. 2 ballot box (O6.2), the EC revealed.

Issue of compliance with Th. Gaadhiffushi No. 1 ballot box (N9.1)

It has been confirmed that two persons not of the constituency had voted into this ballot box. The report detailing the issue also stated that two citizens, from L. Kunahandhoo and R. Innamaadhoo respectively, had been issued the Gaadhiffushi ballot for voting by mistakes. With these votes, Candidate Number 8 (PPM) Hawwa Abdul Haadhee and Candidate Number 7 (MDP) Mariyam Hassan, who were contesting for council seats reserved for women members, received 222 votes. As such, the second vote for this ballot box will take place between Candidate Number 7 Mariyam Hassan and Candidate Number 8 Hawwa Abdul Haadhee.

Issues of compliance with L. Maavashu No. 2 ballot box (O6.2)

Two issues were noted with this ballot box with voting for Council President and Council Members. EC President Ahmed Shareef confirmed that a voter not of the constituency had cast a vote into the ballot box, and that two such instances had been noted as the wrong ballot papers had been issued to voters by mistake. For this ballot box, Candidate Number 3 (MDP) Adam Abdul Rahmaan, and Candidate Number 4 (PPM) Ahmed Moosa, who were contesting for Maavashu Council President, both received 525 votes. As the number of votes are equal, and as a person not of the constituency had cast their votes in the ballot box, a second vote will be held to elect the Maavashu Council President.

In addition to this, as two persons not of the constituency had cast their votes to elect members for the Maavashu Council, a second voting will be held to elect members for the Maavashu Council. EC President Shareef stated that re-voting will take place for the L. Maavashu No. 2 ballot box, with Candidate Number 12 (MDP) Hassan Shifaz, Candidate Number 14 (PPM) Ibrahim Aboobakuru on the ballot as they both received 432 votes.

EC President Shareef went on to state that a second vote will be held to confirm the results of only the L. Maavashu O6.2 ballot box and the Th. Gaadhiffushi N9.1 ballot box. Shareef added that only those already registered to those ballot boxes would be able to vote in the elections, and that voting will only take place between candidates where complaints have been noted. EC President Ahmed Shareef stated that a date for the elections will be announced too.
