Maldives reports 95 new Covid-19 cases, 101 recoveries

Maldives Covid-19 tally has been pushed to 25,939, with 95 new infections reported by sundown on Thursday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed via its latest statistics publicized on Thursday night, that the 95 new coronavirus infections were confirmed through the 3,150 samples tested between 6pm Wednesday and 6pm Thursday.
It has been nearly a week since the public health authority has been discovering lower than 100 daily infections and of the 95 new cases, 59 were confirmed from the Greater Malé Region, 22 from residential islands and 11 from operational resorts.
In addition, three coronavirus infections were also detected from industrial islands on Thursday.
The number of recoveries from Covid-19 reported across the Maldives increased to 23,242 with 101 recoveries reported between 6pm Wednesday and 6pm Thursday.
Thursday’s Covid-19 cases have pushed the number of active infections nationwide to 2,621.
Over the past 24 hours, one more Covid-19 patient was hospitalized for treatment, meaning that the number of hospital admissions has risen to 58.
Maldives Covid-19 mortality rate is currently at 0.29 percent, with the pandemic having claimed 67 lives thus far, the latest fatality having been reported on March 31 when a 66-year-old man, who was rushed to the Emergency Room of Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in an unresponsive state, was pronounced dead within minutes.
The Covid-19 caseload has begun decreasing at a time Maldives drove through a devastating third peak of the virus during the past few months, which led to the reintroduction of a curfew and vehicle movement restrictions across the Covid-19 epicenter Malé City and several measures nationwide.
Daily cases being reported began declining recently, leading to the curfew and some restrictions being dissolved.
Despite the eases stemming from a gradual decrease in Covid-19 cases being reported, authorities continue to urge the public to strictly adhere to the precautionary measures and guidelines in place such as maintaining a safe distance, avoiding social gatherings, maintaining hygiene and following the face mask mandate.
Maldives has been in a state of public health emergency for over a year and the last extension is set to expire on May 4.
