Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has engaged in discussions on enhancing cooperation between Maldives and the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe.
During a virtual meeting with his counterpart in São Tomé and Príncipe, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Community Edite Ten Jua, FM Shahid expressed keen interest to elevate cooperation multilaterally and bilaterally between both countries, especially in exchanging experiences on tourism and development.
The meeting saw FM Shahid and Minister Jua engaging in conversation regarding shared priorities in the international fora as Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Some of topics conversed on include sea level rise, climate change as well as sustainable development.
Both ministers also briefed each other on the evolving situation surrounding the global Covid-19 pandemic and the measures that are currently in place to curb the spread of the virus and drive towards a complete and comprehensive recovery post-pandemic.
Reaffirming commitment to increase cooperation between both countries, the pair discussed strengthening bilateral bonds between both countries, as well as increasing cooperation and sharing of expertise in the field of tourism.
