The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed a community transmission of the Covid-19 pandemic in Veymandoo island of Thaa atoll.
Following the confirmation of a Covid-19 community spread in the island, public health authorities have urged everyone who travelled to the island after March 15 to immediately inform the health centers or hospitals of their respective countries.
These travelers have also been asked to undergo a quarantine period of 10 days.
HPA has also urged those who traveled to the island after March 15 to test for Covid-19 although 10 days have passed since their return. Individuals who are currently in capital Malé City after traveling from Veymandoo have been asked to attend flu clinics at the Malé Hiyaa, Hulhumalé as well as Villimalé.
Despite getting negative results, these individuals are required to undergo the required 10-day quarantine, as per protocols.
Despite Covid-19 cases across the capital region seeing a decline in recent days, the number of active coronavirus cases across outlying atolls are increasing.
On Sunday public health authorities confirmed 21 new Covid-19 cases across residential islands. Maldives Covid-19 tally is currently at 25,617 with 2,990 active infections spanning across the nation.
