With 11 more guesthouses having resumed operations over the past day, there are currently 694 operational tourist accommodation establishments with 46,157 beds across the Maldives.

Latest statistics publicized by the authority revealed that 57 guesthouses across 18 atolls have resumed operations, since being given the green light to do so back in October last year.

Out of the 694 facilities being operated, 407 are guesthouses with 8,676 operational beds, 150 resorts with a 34,782-bed capacity, 137 liveaboard vessels with 2,699 beds and 11 hotels currently in operation have a bed capacity of 1,458.

Guesthouses currently in operation are:

  • Seven guesthouses in two islands of Haa Alif atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in Haa Dhaal atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Shaviyani atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Noonu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Lhaviyani atoll,
  • 22 guesthouses in eight islands of Baa atoll,
  • 163 guesthouses in 10 islands of Kaafu atoll,
  • 89 guesthouses in eight islands of Alif Alif atoll,
  • 44 guesthouses in eight islands of Alif Dhaal atoll,
  • 33 guesthouses in four islands of Vaavu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Meemu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Faafu atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Thaa atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Gaaf Alif atoll,
  • Two guesthouses in one island of Laamu atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in three islands of Gaaf Dhaal atoll,
  • 15 guesthouses in Fuvahmulah City,
  • Eight guesthouses in four islands of Seenu atoll.

A total of 7,218 beds are being operated at these guesthouses.

Statistics go on to reveal that Maldives has a 704-guesthouse capacity as well as nine more non-operational resorts and 21 liveaboard vessels that are yet to resume operations.

Maldives has welcomed 298,570 tourist arrivals so far this year.

Maldives reopened borders on 15 July 2020, nearly four months since borders were closed and at first, resorts and liveaboard vessels were given the green light to begin operations. Guesthouses outside of the Greater Malé Region were permitted to resume operations on October 15. Authorities allowed the reopening of guesthouses in the capital region on December 14.
