Maldives has reported the 67th death from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that deceased is a 66-year-old man who was rushed to the Emergency Room of Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in an unresponsive state at around 12:27pm on Wednesday.
Doctors pronounced him dead at around 12:35pm on Wednesday.
The coronavirus pandemic has claimed another life in the Maldives a little over a week after the last victim was identified. This is also the sixth Covid-19 fatality reported during March.
Maldives has reported 19 deaths from coronavirus thus far this ongoing year.
This comes at a time Covid-19 fatalities have doubled in count since January 2021. As such, while four deaths were observed in January, the number increased to 10 during February.
With a spike in case count, hospitalizations also increased in comparison to what was observed during the second Covid-19 wave in 2020. HPA earlier revealed that hospital admissions are currently lower than they were in mid-February, however, they are still higher in comparison to the hospital admissions recorded at the beginning of the ongoing year.
