Establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and Lesotho
Diplomatic relations have formally been established between Maldives and the Kingdom of Lesotho.
A Joint Communiqué formalizing the diplomatic relations between the island nation and Lesotho was signed during a ceremony hosted on Monday.
The Joint Communiqué was signed on behalf of the Maldives by Permanent Representative of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Thilmeeza Hussain and Nkopane Raseeng Monyane, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the United Nations.
The incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s foreign policy highly prioritizes enhancing meaningful partnerships with countries that respect and value friendships.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and Lesotho will pave way for both countries to engage further to accomplish their common goals in areas of mutual interest, as relatively small nations in the international arena.
With a population of about 2.12 million, Lesotho is a landlocked country situated in Southern Africa, encircled by South Africa.
During discussions held earlier in March between Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid and his counterpart in Lesotho, Matšepo Ramakoae, the pair reaffirmed commitment to enhance cooperation between the two countries, both bilaterally and multilaterally.
