66 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Felivaru island in Lhaviyani atoll.
According to the latest updates provided by the Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital, 104 samples were collected from Felivaru island for Covid-19 testing, out of which results have come in for 88 samples.
Out of this, 66 samples returned positive while 22 came back negative for the infection.
Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital revealed that they are currently awaiting the results of the remaining 16 samples.
Further, three positive cases have been confirmed from Naifaru island in the same atoll, thus far. Nine cases linked to the infections detected from Naifaru have also been discovered from other islands, including four who travelled to Kulhudhuffushi City from Naifaru and two who travelled to the capital Malé City from Naifaru.
The patients currently in Naifaru include one who travelled to Ungoofaaru island and tested positive through a random sample, one in home quarantine and a patient who was hospitalized for treatment.
The patients who tested positive while receiving hospital treatment has since been transferred to a Covid-19 facility.
Monitoring measures were placed in Naifaru island upon the confirmation of Covid-19 cases from the island.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has since urged those who travelled to other islands from Naifaru after March 10, to quarantine themselves for a period of 10 days. The same has been applied for those who travelled from Felivaru island after March 1. Those who have completed their mandatory 10-day quarantine have been urged to test for the virus from health centers of hospitals in their respective islands.
In addition, those who travelled to the capital city from the two islands are also required to visit flu clinics for sampling. Despite negative test results, these individuals are required to undergo a 10-day quarantine period.
