This year's Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship, or Mr. Maldives, hosted by the Bodybuilding Association of Maldives (BBAM) exclusively with Raajje TV, has seen Mohamed Yaameen (Yaambe) awarded the title of Mr. Maldives 2021.
The event to announce the Mr. Maldives champion for 2021 was held at Olympus Cinema on Friday night, with special permission from the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
While Yaambe was awarded the title of Mr. Maldives 2021 in the 19th championship of the series, he won the title once earlier in 2017 as well. Yaambe received first place in the 90kg bodybuilding category, along with Mohamed Moosa, who received first place in the 60kg bodybuilding category. Three-time Mr. Maldives champion Mohamed Rasheed won first place in the 70kg bodybuilding category.
Ahmed Muaz, who won in this year's Athletic Physique category, also received first place in the 180cm bracket as well. Fathuhulla Mohamed received first place in the 170cm bracket for this section.
Azneen Rasheed went on to win first place in the Sports Physique category during Mr. Maldives 2021, and received first place in the 165 cm bracket. Faalih Mohamed Zahir received first place in this category under the 170cm bracket, while Ali Saleem was chosen as the winner of the 175cm bracket. Atheeq-ul Rahman won first place in the 180cm bracket of the Sports Physique category, rounding out the names of athletes awarded at Friday night's special event.
Over 30 bodybuilders took part in Mr. Maldives 2021. This is a greater number of participants compared to the 18 participants who took part in the Mr. Maldives competition in 2019. The BBAM notes this as a huge achievement for this year's Mr. Maldives event, which was aired live on Raajje TV.
Raajje TV acquired exclusive rights to the Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship, Mr. Maldives, for the next three years in February 2021. This is the first time an athlete has been awarded the title of Mr. Maldives since last year's competition was cancelled due to the onset of Covid-19.
