The People’s Majlis has approved the appointment of Dr. Farahanaz Faizal as the Maldives' Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
54 members who took part in Tuesday’s parliament sitting unanimously voted in favor of Dr. Farahanaz’s appointment to the post.
The parliamentary committee on national security and foreign relations approved her appointment to the post last week, after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih forwarded Dr. Farahanaz Faizal's appointment to the IMO as Maldives' permanent representative to the People’s Majlis. In his letter the president sought from the parliament to review her credentials and inform him of their decision concerning her appointment.
In its report, the parliament committee noted that members who took part in its fifth meeting held on February 23, unanimously voted in favor of Dr. Farahanaz’s appointment.
Dr. Farahanaz currently serves as the High Commissioner of Maldives to the United Kingdom, she also fills the position of Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to France and Spain.
IMO is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating shipping across international borders, and consists of 172 UN Member states, in addition to the Cook Islands.
