Distribution of land from Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi have been halted temporarily as the framework for land allocation is being revised.
A press release by Housing Development Corporation (HDC) confirmed that they had brought land distribution in Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi to a temporary halt in light of the work being done to revise the framework for land allocation on the islands.
The company added that they would be finishing work on plots of land that could be given out for long-term use, and that they would be opening the application process once work was completed.
HDC said that they had been operating under the government's directive to complete development efforts on the islands of Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi following the consolidation of GMIZL under their banner.
Reclamation projects in Gulhifalhu began under current Parliament Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed's government, with land and flats from the island having been distributed.
The decision to withhold those lands and flats from members of the public by promising compensation in exchange was made during the administration of incarcerated Former President Abdulla Yameen, complaints with regards to which have yet to be sorted even now.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government plans to develop the islands of Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi as industrial zones.
