Club Eagles earned its first point in the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League (DDPL) after drawing against Da Grande Sports Club on Friday, while the match between TC Sports Club and Super United Victory (SUS) ended in a tie as well.

Friday’s earlier match between Eagles and Da Grande ended with a 1-1 score.

While Eagles, who won this year’s Charity Shield match held to launch the football season, lost both of its previous matches, its first point in the league table was earned following the return of Ahmed Rizwan “Rizey” who had been out of the games after suffering an injury at the Charity Shield match. He scored his first goal of the season during Friday’s game.

The team had multiple opportunities to score during the first half, but had been unsuccessful.

While both Eagles and Da Grande were equally strong in the second half, the latter took the lead early on at the 59th minute with a goal from substitute, Mohamed Sakhaau.

Following this, Eagles increased its attacks towards Da Grande’s goal but was only able to equalize the match at the end with a goal by none other than their star forward Rizey.

Speaking to the press afterwards, Eagles’ Coach Mohamed Shiyaz expressed disappointment in the players performance noting that they made a number of mistakes, especially in the first half of the game. However, he noted satisfaction with their performance following Grande’s goal in the second half.

Da Grande Coach Ismail Mahfooz said that he was happy to have earned a point in the match, but highlighted that the players’ failure to make the most of goal opportunities. He added that they will keep working on improving this.

While Eagles’ earned its first point in the table, Da Grande now has five points with two draws and one win.

While SUS’ defender Ahmed Aiham missed an opportunity to score at the eighth minute of the game, TC was able to take the lead four minutes later with a goal by Ibrahim Savee.

SUS equalized the game towards the end of the first half. Japanese forward Atsushi Yonezawa scored the last goal of the match at the 34th minute.

While both teams had multiple chances to score during the rest of the match, it was mostly uneventful.

TC Sports Club’s Coach Mohamed Shazly told reporters that their target for the match was “to not lose” and expressed content in having reached it. However, he said that a win would have been better.

SUS’ Coach Ahmed Nashid congratulated the players on the point earned in the game, and said that this will give them confidence.

With Friday’s results, DPL newbies SUS now have five points with one win and two draws, while TC has four points after a loss, win and draw.
