Maldives is committed to strengthening engagement with its international partners on key issues of mutual interests, says Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid.

The minister held a virtual meeting with a number of Non-Resident Ambassadors and Embassies from some Eastern European and South American countries accredited to the Maldives, on Tuesday.

Ambassadors of Cuba, Mexico, Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of Serbia, and the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Argentina, took part in the meeting

Discussions at the meeting revolved around the evolving situation of the global Covid-19 pandemic, as well as enhancing bilateral and multilateral relationships between the respective countries.

During the meeting, the foreign minister shed light on the importance of working together in order to strengthen the multilateral system and international cooperation.

The meeting is an initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and aims to encourage closer relationships and interaction between the ministry and the representatives accredited to the Maldives.

The ministry revealed that FM Shahid started the initiative to meet ambassadors accredited to the Maldives to foster closer interaction; back in November, he held a virtual meeting with envoys of some African countries.
