The total number of Covid-19 recoveries reported in the Maldives has exceeded 12,000.

Nightly statistics publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that 21 new cases and 33 additional recoveries were reported by 6pm Wednesday.

This means that the total number of recoveries in the island nation currently sits at 12,001, whereas the country’s Covid-19 tally has risen to 13,070, since the first few cases were discovered on March 7.

HPA revealed that the new cases confirmed out of the 1,862 samples tested within the past 24 hours.

The new cases include 20 from the greater Malé region and one from an operational resort.

According to the statistics, Maldives currently has 1,015 active coronavirus cases, out of which 249 patients are currently seeking treatment at isolation facilities.

91 virus­-stricken patients are hospitalized for treatment, which is two more than the previous day.

Further, there are 775 active coronavirus cases in the greater Malé region, 24 in outlying atolls, 57 in operational resorts, seven in other tourist establishments as well as 151 in islands under development. There is an active case in an industrial island as well.

Although cases have been gradually decreasing over the course of the past few days, authorities continue to assert on the importance of adhering to safety guidelines and instructions provided by the public health authorities, in order to curb infections.
