The number of Covid-19 patients in the Maldives who have fully recovered from the pandemic has crossed 6,000.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported 116 recoveries along with 83 new cases by 6pm, Monday.

The new include 61 Maldivians and 22 foreigners out of which 82 were reported from the Greater Malé Region.

The country’s Covid-19 tally currently sits at 8,667, with recoveries having risen to 6,052.

The island nation currently has 2,580 active cases of the virus out of which 142 are hospitalized for treatment, five less than the previous day.

Further, 1,118 Covid-19 patients are currently receiving treatment at isolation facilities.

Authorities earlier placed monitoring measures in Madaveli island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll and Hoandedhdhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll. There have been 25 confirmed cases from the latter after a local spread was confirmed.

Out of the 91 positive cases from residential islands, there are active cases in 35 residentials islands currently and 22 resorts, with the inclusion of 19 tourists and 48 resort workers.

According to health authorities, less than 100 cases were reported over the last two days, with 98 cases having been reported on Sunday. The lowest daily case count reported since September started, was on Friday, at 80 infections.

Health authorities have also predicted cases to drop significantly in the near future, to the end of the ongoing month.
