141 more Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the Maldives on Thursday.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that 134 out of the total cases were reported in the Greater Malé Region while seven cases were confirmed from residential islands.

The new cases of the global infection include 98 Maldivians and 43 foreigners.

The total Covid-19 case count in the island nation has risen to 8,281.

Further, the authority also reported 145 recoveries from the virus by 6pm, Thursday, pushing the total number of recovered patients to 5,483.

While 166 patients were hospitalized for Covid-19 treatment the previous day, the number decreased to 157 on Thursday.

Maldives currently has 2,763 active cases of the virus out of which 1,304 patients remain at isolation facilities.

Covid-19 cases are also being confirmed in residential islands and resorts, since the government reopened borders for international travel. There are active cases in 39 residential islands and in 20 resorts including 16 tourists and 45 resort staff.

Maldives responded to a surge in Covid-19 cases as a result of entering the third phase of lockdown easing in July by re-introducing a curfew in the Greater Malé Region and imposing more movement restriction after sundown. However, the government remains undecided on implementing a second lockdown, despite over 100 cases being reported on a daily basis in recent days.
