The People’s Majlis has approved four names for membership at the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
During Monday’s sitting, parliament approved the names of Ahmed Nasih, Mohamed Farshath, Fathmath Shareef and Ibrahim Rasheed.
The parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee interviewed a total of 41 individuals who applied for the vacancies out of which 13 names were shortlisted.
Polls were taken for all four names during Monday’s sitting out of which Ibrahim Rasheed was on second and received votes from 65 members.
Secretary General at the Maldives Media Council, Mohamed Farshath received 66 votes.
65 members voted in favor of appointing Fathmath Shareef, former spouse of south-Thinadhoo constituency MP Abdula Saneef, who comes eighth on the list, to CSC.
Coming at 10th on the list, Ahmed Nasih received 67 votes
On July 13, four positions at the commission became vacant after three of them - President Ali Shameem, Vice President Shaheed Mohamed and member Zakariyya Hussain- resigned amid impeachment motions at parliament.
Abstaining from taking a vote on their removal, the parliament passed to remove Ibrahim Shaheeq from the commission with the votes from 48 parliamentarians.
With the parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions decision to remove the four members, only one out of the five members remains; Fathmath Amira. Amira was given the opportunity to respond via writing.
The parliament committee initially looked into five issues linked to three of the members, President Shameem, Vice President Shaheed and member Zakariyya. The five cases include injustice in terminating CSC employees, using undue influence in appointing a few posts, issues within members and the appointment of some members to the commission.
The Civil Service Commission consists of five members.
