A family relative of the doctor has tested positive for Covid-19

Spokesperson at the Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC), Dr. Nazla Rafeeq has gone into home quarantine after being identified as a direct contact of a confirmed Covid-19 patient.

The public health expert revealed via Twitter that she has to go into home quarantine after coming into contact with “a family relative who has now tested positive for Covid-19.”

Nazla added that she is “doing well.”

The doctor will continue to join HEOC’s Covid-19 press briefings, which are being conducted virtually since the pandemic, from her home.

Dr. Nazla was appointed as HEOC’s spokesperson on July 5, following the decision to cease operations of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and shift them to the Ministry of Health.

The senior medical officer at the Health Protection Agency (HPA) was part of the NEOC team as well, and has been on the frontlines of the Covid-19 response efforts since the beginning of the crisis.
