Maldives has confirmed the 22nd death from Covid-19.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that deceased is a 61-year-old Maldivian woman who was seeking treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Hulhumalé Medical Facility.

The woman passed away early Friday, at around 1:45am.

This is the third death to have been reported this week, related to Covid-19.

Since the country began observing a surge in positive cases, especially in locals in the Greater Malé Region since the government began implementing the third phase of lockdown easing on July 1, health officials have been stressing on the need to implement stricter measures, as part of which a seven-hour curfew was declared across the region.

Further, despite a surge in patients requiring treatment at hospitals, the government is keen on avoiding a second lockdown.
