Australia donates PPE in support of Maldives Covid-19 response efforts
 
Governments of Australia and the Maldives have enjoyed close ties over the years

The donation includes 12,000 coveralls and 200,000 gloves of high quality

The government of Australia has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) sets to the Maldives in support of the island nation’s response efforts to the global coronavirus pandemic.

During a special ceremony on Tuesday, the High Commissioner of Australia to the Maldives, David Holly and the Defense Advisor Group Captain Sean Unwin presented the donation to the High Commissioner of Maldives to Sri Lanka, Omar Abdul Razzaq and Defense Advisor to the High Commission of Maldives in Sri Lanka Lieutenant Colonel Ismail Naseer.

Speaking at the ceremony to handover the donation, High Commissioner Holly expressed pleasure from the Australian government in having made the donation and assured that Australia expressed solidarity with the island nation as both countries face the impacts of the Covid-19 crisis, together.

As a long-standing friend, Australia is honored to assist in the Maldives response efforts towards the coronavirus pandemic by providing the equipment for frontline workers, said Holly.

Further, High Commissioner Omar had expressed heartfelt appreciation for the generous donation and support always provided to the Maldives from the Australian government. He went on to thank the Australian Department of Defense for making the generous donation to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).

Australian Department of Defense made the donation to ensure the protection of military personnel working on the frontlines of the Covid-19 battle to contain and curb the spread of the infection.

Worth over USD 120,000, the donation contains 12,000 coveralls and 200,000 gloves of high quality. The products were manufactured in Sri Lanka by Australian company Ansell

The donation is expected to assist the government’s response efforts against the pandemic.

The governments of Australia and the Maldives have enjoyed strong bonds over the years.

Maldives has been receiving numerous donations in support of their frontline Covid-19 response efforts from foreign countries, since the battle against the pandemic began in the island nation, in early March.
