The People’s Majlis has extended the deadline to apply for the recent vacancies at the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

The extension is until 2pm, August 6, revealed that parliament.

Highlighting that the positions are not guaranteed to a specific party, Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed had earlier urged those interested to apply for membership, adding that the opportunity is open to all citizens.

The opportunity was initially opened from July 14 – 21 by the People’s Majlis, after three members; CSC President Ali Shameem, Vice President Shaheed Mohamed and member Zakariyya Hussain resigned prior to the vote of no-confidence motions against four members of the commission during a parliament sitting.

Abstaining from taking a vote on their removal, the parliament passed to remove Ibrahim Shaheeq from the commission with the votes from 48 parliamentarians.

With the parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions decision to remove the four members, only one out of the five members remains; Fathmath Amira. Amira was given the opportunity to respond via writing.
