MP for Kendhikulhudhoo constituency, Ahmed Eesa has been home quarantined, after being identified as a primary contact of an employee at the People’s Majlis, who tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).

This was announced by Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed, at Monday’s sitting, who added that MP and Chairperson of the 19th parliament’s Committee on Social Affairs, Eesa has been asked to quarantine himself at home, after being identified as a primary contact of one of the positive cases at parliament.

On Sunday, another staff member at the parliament tested positive for the virus. The employee had resumed work at the parliament last week.

This is the third Covid-19 case confirmed from the People’s Majlis, a total of 140 individuals are employed at the parliament.

Thus far, none of the parliamentarians have tested positive for the virus.

Following the cases, Speaker Nasheed has urged all members of parliament to practice caution and stay extra vigilant.

Prior to the community transmission that provoked a lockdown across the Greater Malé Region on April 15, the parliament had halted sittings and began holding online sittings, from March 30.

In late May, sittings resumed at the parliament building.
