Discussions have been held regarding the Maldives’ major foreign policy priorities, in the face of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

The discussions were held during a meeting between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, as well as ministry executives, on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the president was briefed on the plan for utilizing diplomatic missions and other ministry resources effectively, by the ministry executives.

The plan was formulated to help the country realize its foreign policy goals.

The ministry’s presentation highlighted that the country’s diplomacy will continue to emphasize the promotion of human rights and climate change, in accordance with Solih’s vision for foreign policy.

The Ministry’s strategies to boost trade and investment opportunities for the country while strengthening Maldives’ tourism sector, obtaining foreign direct investment and assistance and helping the island nation respond to the challenges posed by the pandemic, were also illustrated in the presentation.

Further, the executives of the ministry briefed Solih on the ongoing work to achieve these visions.

During the meeting, Solih expressed gratitude to the foreign minister and his team, commending the hardworking Maldivian diplomats stationed at headquarters and diplomatic missions globally.

The president acknowledged their contributions to assist the country weather the ongoing pandemic and their broader efforts to promote Maldives’ values and interest in the international arena.
