President of the National Sports Council, Ibrahim Ismail has tested positive for Covid-19.
The 70-year-old sports icon was transferred to the Hulhumalé quarantine facility on Monday. He is to have tested positive for the virus after consulting at the hospital following fever. Members of his family are to be tested as well. Ismail’s condition is stable.
While he is unsure of how he contracted the virus given that he has not been leaving home due to the pandemic, Ismail noted that he attended a meeting at the parliament on the 7th of July. Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof joined him that day.
Ibrahim Ismail was appointed president of the Sports Council in 2019. He has been serving in the field for many years, and has made tremendous contributions to the field.
He is also a recipient of the National Award of Recognition, for his contributions in the area of sports and promoting professional sportsmanship.
