The People’s Majlis has opened membership opportunity to apply for the recent vacancies at the Civil Service Commission (CSC).
A no-confidence motions against four members of the commission was initially set for Monday’s sitting, however, three members; CSC President Ali Shameem, Vice President Shaheed Mohamed and member Zakariyya Hussain resigned prior to the vote.
Abstaining from taking a vote on their removal, the parliament passed to remove Ibrahim Shaheeq from the commission with the votes from 48 parliamentarians.
With the parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions decision to remove the four members, only one out of the five members remains; Fathmath Amira. Amira was given the opportunity to respond via writing.
The opportunity to apply for the vacancies at CSC was presented by Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed during Tuesday’s sitting.
As such, the opportunity is open from July 14 – 21.
Highlighting that the positions are not guaranteed to a specific party, Nasheed urged those interested to apply for membership, adding that the opportunity is open to all citizens.
