Covid-19: U.S. government donates PPE in support of Maldives response efforts
The donation is worth over USD 78,000
It includes protective coveralls, latex gloves, safety goggles and surgical gloves
Alaina Teplitz, the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka and to Maldives handed the equipment over to Omar Abdul Razzak, the High Commissioner of Maldives

The government and people of the United States of America has donated a consignment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in support of the Maldives Covid-19 response efforts.

The donation was handed over during a special ceremony held at the High Commission of the Maldives in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

Alaina Teplitz, the U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka and to Maldives handed the equipment over to Omar Abdul Razzak, the High Commissioner of Maldives, on behalf of the government and people of USA.

The donation is worth over USD 78,000, revealed the U.S. ambassador.

The Maldives high commissioner expressed gratitude and sincere appreciation for the donation as well as the continued assistance during these challenging times in the battle against the global pandemic.

The Maldives embassy in Sri Lanka revealed that the country “highly appreciates” the continuous assistance by the American government to combat the pandemic.

The consignment includes:

  • Protective coveralls,
  • Latex gloves,
  • Safety goggles and
  • Surgical gloves

The event was joined by senior officials at the USA Embassy as well as the Maldives Embassy.

Maldives has been receiving numerous donations in support of their frontline Covid-19 response efforts since the battle against the pandemic began in the island nation, in early March.
