FM Shahid expressed his gratitude for the government and people of China for the assistance provided in various forms

The Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid has expressed gratitude for the Chinese government’s continued assistance and cooperation extended amid the global Covid-19 crisis.

Taking to Twitter following discussions with the Chinese Ambassador Zhang Lizhong regarding the current pandemic and ongoing development projects, FM Shahid expressed his gratitude for the government and people of China for the assistance provided in various forms, in connection to the pandemic.

Following the consignment of more essential supplies in the country’s Covid-19 response efforts, FM Shahid earlier noted that the continuous support from the Chinese government during this challenging time is a testimony to the strengthened bilateral relations between both countries.

Since the coronavirus outbreak in the Maldives, China has remained a generous contributor to the Maldives response efforts, having donated medical supplies and equipment and assistance in constructing an accommodation block for foreigners in the Maldives.

Some of the Chinese contributors and well-wishers include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Alibaba Foundation, or Jack Ma Foundation, China Merchants Port Group, China Machinery Engineering Corporation, Beijing Urban Construction Investment and Development, Dongfang Electric International Corporation, China Harbour Engineering Company, China Communications 2nd Navigational Bureau 2nd Engineering and Huawei Technologies.
