Chairs were thrown at police officers, following an altercation between migrant workers quarantined at Amin Hiya.

While videos of this have been circulating online, police said that the furniture equipment were thrown at the security officers after a dispute between the workers.

No one was injured in the incident.

Noting that the matter was controlled shortly after, police stressed that there were no arrests over the matter.

However, they did not disclose a reason for the altercation.

While authorities began work to move a number of expatriate workers living in congested households in the capital in April, some were moved to Amin Hiya. A Covid-19 cluster has been identified there as well, with 105 testing positive for the virus.

An 800-bed accommodation block for migrant workers in Hulhumalé was completed earlier this month, and work is underway to reclaim a 30-hectare land in Gulhifalhu to develop accommodation facilities for them.
