VP discusses Covid-19 pandemic with Islamic Minister
VP Naseem shed light on the steps to be taken in order to ease the current measures in place

Ministry officials briefed VP Naseem on the Hajj pilgrimage and Zakat arrangements for this year

Vice Preisdent Faisal Naseem has discussed the Covid-19 pandemic with the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Zahir.

During the online discussion on Wednesday afternoon where senior officials at the ministry were also in attendance, VP Naseem was enlightened on the ongoing tasks at the ministry, particularly on the Islamic Guidance Programmes being conducted.

The discussions also revolved around the ministry’s responsibilities as the island nation combats the global pandemic and the main focus was addressing the several challenges being faced by the ministry in carrying out their duties, due to the stringent safety measures that have been implemented to protect the community from the virus.

VP Naseem also shed light on the steps to be taken in order to ease the current measures in place.

In addition, the ministry officials briefed the vice president on the Hajj pilgrimage and Zakat arrangements for this year as well as the progress of the mosque construction projects that are underway.

Discussions also touched down on the courses at the National Centre for the Holy Quran and other classes conducted across a scatter of different Islands

Concerns were also shared with VP Naseem, in connection to the lack of Quran teachers in the country.

During the virtual meeting, VP Naseem urged the officials to improve the condition of the National Centre for the Holy Quran as soon as possible, having shed light on the importance of capacity building in a more effective way.

Further, the vice president advised ministry officials to ensure quality assurance when carrying out the mosque construction projects to ensure that it is easily accessed by the public and noted the importance of following safety guidelines when reopening mosques once the Covid-19 restrictive measures are eased.
