Authorities have revealed that a 17th individual, a Maldivian, has tested positive for Covid-19 from the capital on Tuesday.
This brings the city's total to 64, including the 16 cases announced previously on Tuesday, and the country's total case count to 84.
The reveal was made at a press briefing on Tuesday evening, where Covid-19 spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz stated that a total of 17 individuals had tested positive to the infection within the period from Monday night’s press conference to the one held on Tuesday evening.
The new case is a Maldivian, and a direct of Patient 52.
As per protocol, the individual will be taken into an isolation facility.
The first possible sign of a community transmission surfaced on 15 April after a woman, Patient 21, tested positive upon presenting to the flu clinic with symptoms. Since then, the number of cases have been spiraling and the capital Malé has gone into lockdown as contact tracing is being conducted.
