The minister made the statement at after the conference regarding the Thilafushi-Male' bridge, which was held at Dharubaaruge on Sunday
 
The ministry is currently working on the design and tender related work required for the project.

Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure, Mohamed Aslam has stated that construction work on the bridge that will connect the islands of Villingili, Thilafushi, Gulhifalhu and Male' city will begin soon after land reclamation work on Gulhifalhu island is completed in April.

While speaking to the media after the conference regarding the Thilafushi-Male' bridge, which was held at Dharubaaruge on Sunday, the minister revealed that discussions at the conference focused on the design of the bridge.

As he highlighted the ongoing work of contractor surveys and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports for the project, the minister stated that land reclamation work on Gulhifalhu island will be completed by April next year.

The ministry is currently working on the design and tender related work required for the project.

The minister further revealed that no designs have been finalized yet, however, discussions on the lane width of the bridge is ongoing.

Moreover, the ministry has determined to keep Villingili's status as a restricted traffic zone, despite connecting the bridge to the island as well.

Joining the islands of the Greater Male' region is a key electoral pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The 2020 state budget has allocated MVR411 million for the bridge connecting the islands of the Greater Male' region.

The administration seeks to ease transportation, congestion and increase economic activity with the construction of the bridge.
