Two men have been arrested in connection to the vandalism at Meraki Coffee Roasters.

The café was vandalised on Saturday night, with brick thrown at the window. The men also left a note with a threatening message “Women ___ don’t be men! Men don’t be women!” The threat was directed at one of Meraki’s former employees who was recently harassed for wearing a suit to an awards ceremony held earlier in the month.

Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed via twitter revealed that two men have been arrested for vandalising the café.

The commissioner also released statistics on issues related to “extremism in the name of religion”, which shows that a total of 22 such incidents were reported by 31 October this year.

This includes seven incidents of being a member of a terror group, two of terrorist recruitment and promoting terrorism (each) and one of funding terror organizations. There were other five terror related cases.

The statistics also show the number of child marriages (under 18) reported since 2014.

There are ongoing investigations into some of these cases, and one case of promoting terrorism has been completed and sent for prosecution.

Commissioner Hameed also noted that "there is room to increase competence and improve both institutional and national efforts" in tackling cases of religious extremism.
