Maldives women’s national volleyball team has secured a spot in the finals of the AVC Senior Women’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship, as well as a medal, after winning three out of four matches.
The team is playing against teams from Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal; they are yet to play against Nepal.
The national team’s first match was against Kyrgyzstan on Saturday. While the match headed to five sets, the Maldivian team took the first set with a 26-24 score. Kyrgyzstan took the next two sets (25-22 and 25-14), the Maldivian team came out a stronger in the next two sets; which they won with 25-18 and 15-10 scores.
They won against host country Bangladesh in three straight sets (25-16, 27-25 and 25-22), on Sunday.
Monday’s match against Afghanistan was an easy match for the Maldivian team, who took the match in three straight sets with big leads (25-06, 25-07 and 25-08).
The women’s national team departed to Bangladesh last week, to compete in the AVC Senior Women’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship. While they were originally scheduled to go abroad on a training camp ahead of the championship, the camp was later cancelled.
The women’s team had also been practicing with Milorad Kijac prior to departing for the AVC championship. While Kijac was originally appointed to the men’s team, he began working with the women’s team after concern from the players.
