The Three Generation Walk 2019 has been cancelled, due to adverse weather conditions.
An initiative by the Pension Office of Maldives, the walk, hashtagged 3genwalk, was scheduled in commemoration of the International Day for Older Persons.
While it was postponed, Pension Office revealed that an updated date will be announced soon.
It was initially scheduled to be held on Friday at Hulhumalé Central Park from 4pm to 6pm.
In organization with the Maldives Sports Corporation Limited (SportsCo), the walk was cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions across the region which have caused unceasing rain showers over most of the country for the past few days.
The walk revolved around the theme “Journey to Age Equality” and several activities were planned to kick off at Hulhumalé Central Park such as a photo booth, gift distributions as well as awareness programs.
It is notable that the event is a “plastic-free” event.
While individuals from different age groups are enrolled to participate, a draw will be held to choose a lucky winner of cash prizes amounting MVR 2,000 to MVR 3,000.
The family to participate with the eldest member among the entire group of participants will receive the cash prize of MVR 3,000.
The organizers distributed t-shirts for the walk at the Maldives Center for Social Education (Social Center) on Thursday and some of the organizations set to participate include local telecommunications giant Dhiraagu, Public Service Media, Maldives Red Crescent, Maldives Civil Service Commission (CSC), Tree Top Hospital, Ministry of Health, Family Protection Authority, National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), World Health Organization office in Maldives, National Institute of Education (NIE) as well as Cancer Society of Maldives among several others.
