Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert over some regions of Maldives following torrential rains.

The yellow alert was issued on Friday morning from Raa atoll to Meemu atoll.

The MET department predicts torrential rains and thunderstorms to prevail over the region from 10:45am to 2pm on Friday.

The overall forecast predicts scattered rain showers with a few showers and thunderstorms over central and northern atolls with isolated thundershower in southern parts of the country.

Since the beginning of the monsoon season, the capital city Malé and most atolls have been experiencing unceasing rain showers throughout the days.

Due to under-development, some regions, including the capital city have been experiencing issues related to flooding as well.

Further, MET office predicts seas to be generally rough with strong gusts of winds and urges the public to be cautious, especially sea travelers.
