Nine men were rushed to the hospital for burns attained after the fire

Seven out of the nine men initially admitted at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for burns attained during the T-Jetty fire on Monday, are in stable condition.

Media Official at the hospital revealed that out of the seven that are still receiving treatment, one is being treated in Intensive care while one is receiving treatment in the emergency room.

The most serious burns were attained by an individual with 50 percent of his body burned. Other had 25 – 45 percent of their bodies burned.

Two out of the nine who were initially rushed for treatment were released on Monday after treatment.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih visited the victims at the hospital on Monday night after inspecting the site of the fire.

While the fire was reported at around 03:40pm, it was completely put out by 05:09pm. Firefighters extinguished the fire over an hour after the fire broke out, with the help of volunteers.

The cause of the fire still remains unclear, however, RaajjeMV understands that the spark was created due to a lit cigarette near an oil bowser while it was refueling a speedboat docked at the T-Jetty.

Authorities are yet to confirm this.

While the speedboat where the fire sparked sank after a while and there are reported oil leaks in the region, police revealed that no arrests have been made thus far in the incident.
