Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir is set to give a statement to the police over the report he filed against former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

In the police report, MP Jabir claimed that he had given MVR 29 million to fund Gayoom’s presidential campaign.

The police service has summoned MP Jabir to police headquarters for Monday night at 8pm, to give his statement.

MP Jabir earlier said that Gayoom had taken money from him at various times for Gayoom’s campaign after claiming that it was to “bring democracy back to Maldives,” and that he had filed the police report after failing to retrieve the money.

The police initially refused to investigate due to lack of evidence, but MP Jabir has said that he has re-submitted the report with 12 pieces of evidence.

Gayoom’s party Maldives Reform Movement has denied MP Jabir’s claim.
