National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has assisted 95 percent of individuals registered at the authority, who were affected by Friday’s tragic fire.
NDMA’s Deputy Chief Executive Umar Moosa Fikuree confirmed that 443 individuals both local and migrant have been assisted and they are currently assessing the buildings that were damaged during the fire.
Further, they are working to transfer the families back to the houses that are safe to live in.
Temporary shelter has also been provided for those in need of it, he revealed.
While the fire broke out after a toxic explosion inside a chemical warehouse in Henveiru-ward of capital city Malé on Friday, civilians, migrants, employees from Malé City Council, Maldives Red Crescent and several volunteers had joined the relief efforts that saw donations and contributions in hefty amounts.
Friday's fire took one life and affected hundreds, and authorities have since revealed that they are searching if there is another body in the site where the fire broke out.
