The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has revealed that they have provided assistance for a total of 443 individuals thus far following the tragic fire incident in capital city Malé on Friday.

At a press conference at Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Headquarters, NDMA’s Chief Executive Hisaan Hassan revealed that the authority is proceeding with relief efforts for the affected families.

As such, 443 individuals have been provided assistance and 83 individuals from 13 families have been provided temporary shelter.

In addition, the affected families have also been provided food, water and essentials.

Alongside locals, Bangladeshi nationals are also being provided assistance in the relief efforts, revealed Hisaan. As such, 59 Bangladeshi nationals have been provided temporary shelter in in the youth accommodation block in the Galolhu Stadium.

Up until Saturday morning, 50 individuals have been treated at ADK Hospital and help centers also continue to provide treatment for those affected, revealed Hisaan.

Four warehouses and seven houses were burned beyond repair in Friday’s fire which started in Abadhah Fehi Magu in Henveiru-ward of the capital.

While hundreds of people were affected due to the chemical filled smoke, a woman trapped inside her apartment had died.
