Minister of Sports, Youth and Community Empowerment has on Saturday launched “Switch” program, an initiative to stop the use of single-use plastic.
“Switch” is an initiative of South Community Empowerment Association of Maldives (SCEAM).
The program was launched during a special ceremony held in Addu City at 11:30am on Saturday.
Addu City Mayor Ahmed Sodig revealed that the program aims to phase out the use of single-use plastic and switch to a biodegradable option.
A resolution was passed earlier to ban the use of single-use plastic in Addu City from 5 June 2020 onwards. The resolution was passed with the votes of seven members of the city’s council present during a meeting held on 18 June.
