MDP leadership should be fair with speakership endorsements: MP Rasheed
MP Rasheed said that all parliamentarians expressing interest in the post should be treated equally

The Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) leadership should refrain from prematurely and unfairly endorsing party lawmakers for speakership of the People’s Majlis, says MP Mohamed Rasheed Hassan.
MP Rasheed, who represents the Alifushi constituency, said in an interview with RaajjeTV on Wednesday that endorsing specific parliamentarians over others results in discord.
MP Rasheed also said that this could cause those not endorsed to lose out on ‘some rights’, and that the party should ‘focus on protecting the rights of everyone, instead of promoting the interests of select people’.
The lawmaker is referring to fair treatment between parliamentarians who have expressed interest in the office of the speaker and deputy speaker.
Five lawmakers aligned with MDP have expressed interest in being parliament speaker.
The 19th parliament, elected through ballots on April 6th, will take their oaths of office in late May.
