Minister commends Germany's contribution to smooth transition in Maldives
"Overwhelmed by the friendship and support of the German government towards Maldives government and towards development of Maldives"

The government of Germany and the European Union’s support to the government and people of Maldives contributed highly in achieving a smooth transition in Maldives, said Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.

FM Shahid expressed his gratitude to his counterpart in Germany, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas over the matter during a meeting held with him on the sidelines of the fifth Berlin Energy Dialogue.

At the meeting held at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, Germany, both leaders discussed ways on further strengthening existing bilateral relations between Maldives and Germany.

Some of the discussion revolved around the issue of setting up a permanent office in Maldives for its people to apply for Schengen visas.

Thanking FM Shahid for accepting his invitation to attend the conference, FM Maas conveyed his delight at the “smooth” transition of power following President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s win in the Presidential Elections in September.

Also delighted by the subsequent consolidation of democracy by the new Government of President Solih, FM Maas went on to congratulate the Maldives Minister on the successful Parliamentary Elections held last Saturday.

Minister Shahid is currently visiting Germany to attend the Fifth Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue. At the conference he participated at the Panel discussion on “Geopolitics in the Age of renewable energy”.

He is accompanied by Ambassador of Maldives to Germany Ahmed Latheef, Deputy Ambassador Mohamed Jinah and Minister Counsellor Shiruzimath Sameer.
