Maldives Autism Association has stated that they will begin using technology to help children with autism.
Speaking at an event to mark Autism Day on Sunday morning, association chairperson Ilham Hussain said that children with autism need technological solutions to overcome difficulties and become involved members of the community.
Ilham said that the use of technology will enable them to use social media and have a voice in decision making.
She said that the most difficult obstacle is the cost but that the association has begun using the technology to teach children with autism to communicate and develop essential skills.
She also said that they have launched a programme to train 100 teachers to use the technology in classes and that a separate programme will be created for parents.
48 children have also been screened for autism in country-wide initiative.
Since its establishment in 2010, the association has been conducting therapy and education programmes for children with autism, said Ilham, adding that they will continue to advocate for their rights and increase public awareness.
