Discussions held on consolidating ties between Maldives and Belgium

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has discussed ways to further consolidate the existing friendly ties between Maldives and Belgium, with the new Ambassador of Belgium to the Maldives, Franҫois Delhave.

The discussions were held on Monday morning at the President’s office, where the new Belgian Ambassador presented his Letter of Credence to the Maldivian President.

Expressing his desire that both countries will work to increase international cooperation, President Solih reiterated his government’s commitment to progress on major issues. Some of the issues include human rights, climate change as well as good governance.

President Solih had welcome the vision of cooperation with Belgium on these important spheres, revealed the President’s Office.

In addition, he highlighted that the EU policy dialogues will be held by month-end, after which Maldives will host the partnership forum in June.

Further, the President expressed hope that the dialogues will pave way for constructive engagement between both countries.

He also stated his wish that the dialogue will facilitate investment and economic cooperation between Belgium and Maldives.

During the discussions, the Belgian Ambassador reiterated on President Solih’s remarks, having expressed his wish to build on the existing “positive” relations, during his ambassadorial tenure.
