Bus Service in the capital city

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been tasked with operating the bus service in the “Greater Male’ Area”, reveals the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.

At a press conference on Thursday, Minister Aishath Nahula stated that the people are facing confusions and difficulties as the bus services are currently being provided by two different companies.

Although MTCC is currently operating bus services within capital city Male’s fast-growing suburban extension Hulhumale, bus services are provided by Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) between Male’ to Hulhumale.

“We reached the decision to hand over the responsibility of operating buses to MTCC to make it efficient for the citizens” said the Minister.

Highlighting that the authorities are currently working to introduce a mini bus service for travel within Male’, Minister Nahula revealed that they will ensure environment friendly vehicles are brought to Maldives for the services.

Transport Authority is also to establish bus services in other cities such as Fuvahmulah and Addu.

Establishing mini bus services in the Maldives is one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s pledges.

Transport Ministry had in early December expanded bus service between Male’ and Hulhumale after opening new bus stops.
