Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that Maldivians had shown unwavering solidarity, that cannot be expressed in speech or writing, during the 2004 tsunami.
In a press release on National Unity Day on Wednesday, Maumoon said he remembers the unity the citizens had shown when the tsunami devastated Maldives.
The Former President asked that people take the example shown by those who had stepped up to help the community during the tsunami, and to uphold the good of the nation during such harrowing disasters.
Maumoon, who is one of the four government coalition leaders, also noted that the coalition parties had won the presidential election because of solidarity.
