President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Tuesday appointed Abdulla Munaz as Commissioner of Prisons.

The appointment was made at Deputy Ministerial level.

Munaz was appointed as Commissioner of Prisons mere hours after he resigned from the inquiry commission into unresolved deaths and disappearances earlier on Tuesday afternoon.

While Munaz was a member of the commission which was formed in late November to investigate murders and disappearances between the beginning of 2012 and the 17th of November 2018, he had previously served in the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) for 24 years until he retired from his post in 2011. He was then at the rank of First Lieutenant.

Munaz later on served as Superintendent of Department of Penitentiary and Rehabilitation Services in 2011 upon the establishment of the department.

Munaz also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Management.
